This Handling Disappointment Mini Unit is a week-long unit that helps your students learn to how handle disappointment through identifying that feeling, building coping skills, and learning that people feel disappointment at different times.

DAY ONE: What is disappointment?

DAY TWO: How I React to Disappointment

DAY THREE: Calm Choices
- Social Narrative about how to make calm choices when feeling disappointed (incudes Google slides, color PDF, and BW take home story)
- Activity to help students look at scenarios and determine how the kids felt and what they could do
- Scenario discussion to choose calm choices
- Reflection worksheet
DAY FOUR: My Coping Menu
- Students review a variety of coping strategies
- Activity to create their own menu of strategies that work for them
- Worksheet
DAY FIVE: My Personal Game Plan (Reflection & Application)
- Review & discussion of tricky situations where students may feel disappointed
- Students then create a specific plan, they will identify how they feel in these situations, and come up with steps to be sure they make calm choices
- Reflection worksheet
- Certificate for completion
